At least 1 killed, 2 injured as footbridge collapses in Syrian capital

DAMASCUS, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — At least one person had been confirmed dead and two others were injured on Monday after a pedestrian footbridge collapsed in the Syrian capital of Damascus, local media reported.
According to local Sham FM radio and witnesses, a high-rise car crashed on the bottom of the bridge, resulting in its collapse. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Witnesses said that emergency services rushed to the accident site to transport the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. ■
